“DC Universe Online (abbreviated DCUO) is a free-to-play

the DC Universe of DC Comics. Developed by Daybreak Game
Company and co-published by Daybreak Game Company and WB
Games, the game was released on January 11, 2011.”

Based on the wikipedia description, DC Universe might sound like just another
blood-letting, destructive, killing game, but that is not what we found.  DC
Universe is actually a family-oriented game.  The player can create their own
super hero and then choose a mentor from a list of DC Comics heros like Superman,
Batman, etc. etc.

And the player can choose to be a hero or villain, male or female, plus dozens
of other attributes, such as, body type, personality, movement mode, and super

The player is involved in incredible battles with super powered opponents. Many
of the story lines come directly from DC Comics pages which is sure to jog the
memories of mom and dad.  Many super heroes and villains are involved, such as,
Batman, Robin, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Joker, etc. etc.

Best of all, this is the type of game that does NOT really attract the aggressive,
bad-mouthing crowd that are found in the more violent games, such as, Worl Of
Warcraft, Code Of Honor, Grand Theft Auto, Eve, and others.

Online Game Cheating Detection System!

Rockstar, the publisher of the vastly popular Grand Theft Auto, (GTA), has
announced new in-game cheat-detection systems.  Of course, they are not
explaining HOW their new system can detect cheating, but they have explained
what will happen if you are caught.

Their statement reads:
As a reminder, any attempt to tamper with the behavior of
GTA Online by installing or executing mods, scripts, or other
exploits, modifying the game files or manipulating the game
in any way while it is executing will result in disciplinary
action including but not limited to time in the cheater pool,
bans and potential suspension of your account.”

I do a little coding, but since I am not a professional programmer, especially
in whatever language they write their games, probably C or C+, I have no idea
how they might detect cheating.  I have seen mods, (a small computer program
that modifies the gameplay), for sale online and they are relatively cheap.

Some mods can make walls invisible giving you the ability to see and shoot your
opponent while he can not see you.  Other mods can give you special powers.

So, I think it is easy to see how the cheating can ruin the game for anyone
that is NOT cheating, which just encourages more players to cheat.  Selling
the cheat mods has become a lucrative online business.

Are US States Breaking Federal Online Gambling Law?

Online gambling is legal in Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware IF the players
are actually in that state and prove they are of correct age according to
bills passed in those states.  This legality is due to the Department Of Justice,
(DoJ), decision that The Wire Act of 1961 only outlaws sports betting online.

And there are at least five other states, as of this writing, that are close
to passing legislation that will legalize online gambling within their borders.

You may have heard of big casinos being shut down, but it was not for gambling,
but rather money crimes related to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
of 2006 which prohibits paying for gambling with credit cards, checks, or any
other financial tool.  So, if you can not pay, you can not play.  But some of
the big casinos found ways to get around that by fraud and deception, and that
is why there were shut down.

But now there is a new problem.  Early last year, a bill was submitted to the
House of Representatives called: The Restoration of America’s Wire Act. This
bill if it ever gets passed would extend the original Wire Act to include
all sorts of online gambling putting the states in violation of federal law.

Oh well, that is what keeps life interesting.
